Telecom students elected SkillsUSA officers in the fall, and they will be the leading the group as competition season fast approaches.

SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization that Telecom students can join. The goal of SkillsUSA is to ensure that America has a skilled workforce. Students, teachers, and industry work toward that goal, mostly through conferences featuring competitions, but also by supporting Career and Technical Education (CTE) in the nation’s classrooms.

Telecom students have been participating in SkillsUSA conferences for over 20 years. Telecom Supervisor Ray Price and Instructor Carl Daniels, Jr. are the advisors.

Khamari Bryant (Woodside senior), Jhase Wright (Menchville senior), Emory Whitfield (Menchville senior), John Benoit (Menchville sophomore), Nathan Perez-Lopez (Woodside senior), and Ariel Savage (Menchville senior) are the SkillsUSA officers for the 2025-26 school year.

Students participating in SkillsUSA can go to competitions at the district, state, or even national level. The students compete in a number of different categories, and are encouraged to try things other than TV production, too. Some of the categories they have competed in include "Live on Site" Video Production, Prepared Speech, Quiz Bowl, and Job Interview.

This year, the SkillsUSA officers and their positions are:

• Parliamentarian – Ariel Savage

One goal of the club is to raise money for expenses involved in attending and competing in the SkillsUSA conferences.
