The fourth annual Newport News Public Schools Band Expo was held October 7 at Todd Stadium, and the Telecom crew was there to video-record the exciting performances for TV and YouTube.

The expo featured the marching bands from Denbigh, Menchville, Warwick, Woodside, and Heritage high schools performing their halftime shows.

Additionally, eighth graders from all seven middle schools joined in with the high school bands to play the national anthem at the start of the showcase. Earlier in the day, the middle schoolers participated in a mini band camp with the high school band members.

NNPS Visual and Performing Arts Supervisor Katie Sheehan-Smith was the host/announcer for the event, joined by Youth Development Specialist Christina Buckingham.

The event was free and open to the public.

The production team was led by Telecom Instructor Carl Daniels, Jr. He and Telecom graduate Joshua Stuck (2020 Denbigh) directed and served as Camera Operators, swapping positions part-way through. Daniels also served as Video Editor. Telecom Supervisor Ray Price was Producer.

Other Camera Operators were Telecom grad Muriel Gamble (2017 Achievable Dream), and current Telecom students Cameron Kea (Menchville senior) and John Benoit (Menchville sophomore).

Telecom alumnus Brandon K. Hedgepeth was Stream Coordinator, while Telecom grad Ethan Clinkenbeard (2024 Woodside) was Audio Technician.

As always, NNPS-TV Broadcast Engineer Mansoor Ahmed handled the engineering duties.

The TV team used their ATEM Mini Pro portable switcher for the four-camera production. Two cameras were in the stands and two on the ground.

The performance will air on NNPS-TV Cox Channel 47, Verizon Fios Channel 17, on Roku and Apple TV, and online at nnpstv.com/webstream. It is available on demand on the Telecom student YouTube channel.
