students on TV set

This is the time of year when Telecom students are working hard producing television shows for class credit and perhaps to air on NNPS-TV.

TV students have been working on a number of shows: a new episode of "Focus" and two new "YAP About It"'s.

The latest "Focus" show features a positive and cheerful interview with two local ladies who have authored a book called Platinum Rules for Enjoying Life.

Host Trevor Roach, a Menchville senior, explores the ideas behind the book with them.

Sylvia Weinstein Craft, Publisher and Editor of the Oyster Pointer, and Dr. Lisa Spiller, Distinguished Professor Emerita of Marketing, in the Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business at Christopher Newport University (CNU), are the co-authors. On the show, they discuss the idea of leading a meaningful life and leaving a positive mark on the world, but also how the book shows exactly how to do that.

Ryan Hedgepeth, a Woodside senior, was Producer, Director and Technical Director of the show.

The student show "YAP About It" started at the tail end of last year. A pilot was produced with two student hosts discussing sports. The Telecom students have created a second episode about sports, and are now working on one relating to entertainment.

For their class projects, the students are in charge of all aspects of the production: brainstorming, writing, directing, producing, hosting, camera, graphics, and audio.

The shows are available on the Student YouTube channel and may air on NNPS-TV Cox Channel 47/Verizon Fios Channel 17, which is also available via livestream on Roku or Apple TV, or online at nnpstv.com/webstream.
