The Telecom crew recently livestreamed and video-recorded the New Horizons Build Hampton Roads "Good Life Solutions" Career Selection Day Ceremony, which was held at Liberty Live Church in Hampton.

The crew produced the event for livestream and video in 2019 and 2021 as well.

The team had already had a long day setting up for Christopher Newport University's graduation ceremonies — first outdoors and then again indoors when the forecast for bad weather forced the move. The New Horizons signing event happened to be the same day, but the Telecom crew was able to complete both assignments.

The Career Selection Day event is a celebration of New Horizons students joining the workforce. It is modeled after the sports signing days for athletes committing to a college team. The program features the announcement of employers and the students who will be new employees, plus the presentation of awards. Represented industries include automotive, construction, advanced manufacturing, and technology/cybersecurity.

The Telecom crew used their ATEM Mini Pro portable switcher for the three-camera production that included a wireless camera that uses WiFi.

Telecom Supervisor Ray Price served as producer and also as camera operator, since Telecom alumnus Brandon Hedgepeth was directing. The other two camera operators were Collin Smalls and Joshua Stuck, also Telecom graduates.

According to their website, New Horizons Regional Education Center (NHREC) is operated by the six Peninsula school divisions to provide educational services that are most efficient to implement through a regional partnership, with the goal being to help develop a world-class workforce and self-sufficient citizens.

The Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) is part of New Horizons and offers training in a wide range of jobs, such as HVAC, Welding, and Criminal Justice.

The Telecom team supports Newport News Public Schools and the community with TV/video production and livestreaming while training high school students for work in the industry.
