honorees in auditorium, 2 crew members in control room

Amid the excitement of Heritage High School's Girls' Indoor Track winning the Class 4 State Championship, NNPS held its annual Track Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which was broadcast live on NNPS-TV (Cox Ch. 47/Verizon Fios 17) and livestreamed on YouTube.

The event, which was first held 40 years ago, took place on Friday, March 25, at the NNPS Administration Building Auditorium.

The induction ceremony returned after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

Two coaches and three athletes were inducted, covering the years 2020, 2021, and 2022: Coach Juan Jackson, Coach Jerome Rhodes, Terrence Riggins, Derrick Robbins, Sr., and Maurice Pierce.

The Heritage Girls' Indoor Track State Champs were also honored for their accomplishment.

The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Conn-Madden Relays at Todd Stadium.

Olympic Gold Medalist Francena McCorory, who was a track standout at Bethel High School and Hampton University, was in attendance. McCorory has visited Telecom before, when she was interviewed as a guest on "Sports Highlights."

Because the event was held in the School Board auditorium, the Telecom crew used the robotic cameras used for School Board meetings, which means they operate them from across the street in the Telecom building.

Telecom Supervisor Ray Price served as Director, and crew members included Telecom graduates Collin Smalls (Camera Operator), Muriel Gamble (Graphics), and Joshua Stuck (DDR/Audio). First-year Telecom student Victor Soto (Camera Operator) rounded out the crew.

Telecom Intern Brandon Hedgepeth set up the event for livestream and NNPS-TV Media Coordinator Darrick White set it up for live television.

It was the first time it was livestreamed.

"The families were pleased we had the livestream," said Price. "We had people tuned in from Hawaii and Ohio," he added.
