NNPS Telecom Supervisor Ray Price, who has been broadcasting sports and other student activities for over 30 years, was honored in April by the Virginia High School League. Along with world champs, Olympians, and legendary coaches, he was inducted into the VHSL Hall of Fame, as a contributor for his TV and online broadcasting efforts.
Price was notified a few months ago that he was to be inducted, an email that surprised and thrilled him.
After the initial shock wore off, Price made arrangements to attend the induction ceremony in Charlottesville with his family.
The Virginia High School Hall of Fame honors those who have made outstanding contributions to high school athletic activity programs. Inductees may be athletes, coaches, or contributors.
According to the VHSL website, "the Class of 2023 includes a FIFA Women’s World Cup winner; Olympic gold medal winners; national, world, and NCAA champions; a former VIA and VHSL coaching legend who led the way in integration; national champions; All-Americans; state champion coaches; and legendary contributors."
Past inductees from the Hampton Roads area include: Ronald Curry, Dennis "Koz" Kozlowski, Francena McCorory, and Mike Smith.
Many "enshrinees" attended the event and were introduced by class.
Each inductee was presented with a neck medallion and a beautiful engraved crystal clock. A video of photos, highlights, and background information about them was shown during the presentation.
Price said after the ceremony, "I am so thankful for this honor and the opportunity to leave a legacy for my family, NNPS, and the community."
