Teachers of the Year Awards Banquet

The Teachers of the Year Awards Banquet honors the top teachers as selected by their colleagues. Teachers of the Year will hold that title for the entire following year (2023-24). Each school selects a Teacher of the Year, and from that group, three teachers are selected as the Elementary, Middle, and High School Teachers of the Year. One of those three is then chosen as the Division Teacher of the Year. The banquet was held at the Newport News Marriott at City Center on May 9.

STAR Awards

The STAR Awards cover Elementary, Middle, and High school, and those students are honored at two awards ceremonies:  one for Elementary school students and one for Secondary school students.

STAR stands for "Students Taking Action and Responsibility" and the award  honors students for their leadership, initiative, citizenship, and  good works. It is sponsored by the Department of Youth Development.

The STAR Awards (Elementary and Secondary) were held virtually in 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year, the Secondary School STAR Awards were held in person on April 19 and the Elementary STAR awards on June 7. The Elementary STAR awards were not recorded.
