The NNPS Telecom team covered the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Annual Convention in mid-November in order to gather footage to make a promo video for advertising next year's conference.
The convention, which is held in Williamsburg, is the largest gathering of school board members in the state.
NNPS Telecom students have spent a couple days video-recording at the event since 2013. They bring back footage to use in the promo video that will advertise next year's gathering.
The past couple years have been unusual, with the convention held virtually in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2021 it was a hybrid version, meaning participants could attend in person or join virtually. This year's conference was in person, with a few of the presentations being livestreamed.
A small team of Telecom alumni handled the convention this year: Brandon Hedgepeth and Collin Smalls, led by Telecom Supervisor Ray Price.
The TV team recorded segments of the convention needed for the video promo. They covered guest speaker presentations and discussion panels, school performances, and exhibition hall vendor booths. They did interviews with participants and was even out for the 5K run early in the morning.
Once the video is edited, it will be submitted for review and any needed modifications will be made.
Demetri Waddell, a 2015 Telecom and Heritage High graduate, was seen at the 2022 VSBA Convention, setting up and running all the audio-visual equipment needed for the event. He works for The AV Company, which is based in Charlottesville. As a Telecom student, he gained important experience on the paid crew, working as Camera Operator or Technical Director. Telecom Supervisor Ray Price spotted him and caught up with him a bit.
Gina Patterson, Executive Director for the VSBA, sent her thanks via email.
"The students I saw did a great job engaging with the attendees," she said. "I really appreciate all that you and your students do to help make the annual convention a success."
