The Telecom crew recently covered a new division-wide activity: The NNPS Band Expo.

Held at Todd Stadium, the Band Expo featured the marching bands from Denbigh, Menchville, Warwick, Woodside, and Heritage high schools performing their half-time shows.

Elementary school drum lines, the Riverside Booming Bears and the Katherine Johnson Crimson Thunder, entertained the crowd before the high school bands performed.

All the high schools bands, including eighth graders from Passage, Gildersleeve, Hines, Crittenden, Achievable Dream, and Booker T. Washington middle schools, joined together to play the national anthem at the start of the showcase.

The Telecom team, led by Supervisor Ray Price, who served as Producer, used their ATEM Mini Pro portable switcher for the three-camera production. The performance was recorded for TV and the web, and will begin airing on NNPS-TV Cox Channel 47, Verizon Fios Channel 17, on Roku and Apple TV, and online at nnpstv.com/webstream once it is edited and scheduled. It will also be available on demand on the Telecom student YouTube channel (YouTube.com/nnpstelecom).

Another first was a crew list that included two middle-school camera operators, John Benoit and Elijah Price (Ray Price's son), who attend Booker T. Washington and have been on other shoots in the past.

Telecom grads Brandon Hedgepeth (Director) and Joshua Stuck (Camera) were also on duty, as was current Telecom student Camera Operator Fantasee Carey.

"We had to divide up," said Supervisor Price, "since the School Board meeting was happening at the same time."

All School Board meetings are broadcast live by the Telecom crew, so another team was working on that production from the Telecommunications building.

The Band Expo production was a success and the TV broadcasts will be another way to showcase excellent music education in NNPS.
