Telecom students have been covering the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Annual Convention for years. Held in Williamsburg, the convention draws over 1,000 school board members, superintendents, and school division employees from all over Virginia.

Since 2013, NNPS television production students have spent a couple days video-recording at the event, including doing interviews, and use the footage to create a promo video of the next year's gathering.

This year, of course things were different. With no gatherings allowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the VSBA convention had to be held virtually.

Still, the Telecom students were asked to cover the convention and make the promo for next year.

Telecom Supervisor Ray Price, Instructor Carl Daniels, Jr., and students from the senior class were granted online access to record various parts of the conference via Zoom.

The Telecom team "attended" guest speaker presentations, discussion panels, school performances, and virtual exhibition hall vendor booths. Some NNPS administrators, like Dr. Michele Mitchell, Executive Director of Student Advancement, gave presentations at the conference. Douglas Brown, Chairman of the NNPS School Board, also spoke.

The TV team recorded segments of the convention they thought would be needed for the video promo. Additionally, the VSBA provided video of interviews that could be used in the promo. The students will work with Daniels on ideas for editing the video. Telecom Intern Eleanor Stuck, a 2017 graduate, will be key to the project.

The convention was held November 18- 20, and the team will submit the video for review and suggestions for modifications early in the spring semester.
