2018 graduation: Live stream, TV & online broadcast schedule

graduation cap Telecom students will live stream the NNPS graduations on YouTube and video-record them for broadcast on NNPS-TV Cox 47/FiOS 17. Find out the different ways you can see the ceremonies.

Don't forget that DVDs of the ceremony can be ordered for $20. After June, the price goes up, so order now!

CNU graduation: A Telecom production

student video-recordingThe Telecom crew video-recorded Christopher Newport University's graduation ceremony May 12. It will be produced for DVD, which will be available for CNU families to purchase. Telecom's video was also used for the live shots displayed on the giant LED screens at the ceremony.

Carl Daniels receiving certificateTelecom Instructor Carl Daniels, Jr. was honored for his work leading the TV students in the production of educational videos for the NASA eClips initiative.

Awards shows

STAR AwardsEvery year, NNPS-TV records the Newport News Public Schools awards ceremonies to air on NNPS-TV Cox Channel 47/Verizon FiOS Channel 17. End-of-the-year ceremonies include:  Salute to Success, Exemplary Support Staff of the Year, STAR Awards (Elementary and Secondary), Teachers of the Year, and the NNPS Retirement Banquet.

Summer hours

NNPS-TV/Telecom will be operating on summer hours starting the week of June 18. NNPS school and administration buildings will be closed on Fridays during the summer. The first closure is Friday, June 22. The last Friday closure will be the week of August 13 (closed on Friday, August 17). Please keep this in mind if you are stopping by to purchase a graduation DVD!

Student news

Telecom logoThe TV-I students are finishing up their music video project and the TV-II students are done with their projects and are finalizing their "résumé reels" (digital portfolios).

The students enjoyed a field trip to NASA Langley Research Center that really impressed them. They got to see the Mars Ice Challenge, where university students attempt to extract water from simulated Martian ice with equipment they designed and built. TV students have been working with NASA eClips for the past few years.

Congratulations to the recent graduates who completed two years of the Telecom program: She’keliah Chapman, Darin Cooper, José Solivan, Victoria Holmes, Teonja Tatum, Jason Hoyle, and Trinity Mitchell.

What's 'just in'?

This Just In logo"This Just In" is a quick look at exciting happenings in our school division.

What's showing

Teacher of the YearThis month, NNPS Awards shows like Teacher of the Year (pictured) will be airing as they happen and are produced. Educational shows like "Music Maestro,"  "100 Years, 100 Events,"  and "World Destination" will be featured as well. Toward the end of the month and next month, NNPS Graduations will air.

Telecom TV Production studentsThe June episode of Sports Highlights features Telecom/NNPS-TV Television Production students: Dejah Brown - Warwick High, Ryan Mullen - Woodside High, Jason Hoyle - Woodside High, and Darin Cooper - Menchville High. Check it out on NNPS-TV (Cox 47/Verizon FiOS 17) on Mondays at 7 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m., and weekends at 9 a.m. Visit during the TV broadcast to watch it online. You can also go to the NNPS-TV Roku or Apple TV channel, or the NNPS-TV Video site, to watch it on the live stream during the broadcast. For "on demand," go to the above YouTube link, the NNPS-TV Video site, or the NNPS-TV Roku or Apple TV channel.

The next School Board Meeting is the Oath of Office Ceremony, which will be held Tuesday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m.  It will be broadcast live on NNPS-TV (Cox Channel 47/Verizon FiOS Channel 17 ), and it will be re-played at later dates. School Board meetings can also be seen on the live web stream of the channel during the live broadcast or the replays. Our NNPS-TV Roku and Apple TV channels also have a live stream you can watch during the TV broadcasts, or you can find it on demand there afterward.
