NNPS Telecom students were hired hands for the June 9-12 weekend of Newport News high school graduations, and this year there was an extra ceremony to cover: Achievable Dream's at the Ferguson Center. The Telecom students put their knowledge and skills to work as fellow students marched to "Pomp and Circumstance" at the ceremonies.
Each year, the NNPS Telecommunications Center produces DVD's of the special occasion, and recording such an event involves many workers in a wide variety of roles, from Stage Manager to Camera Operator to Grip.
The graduations are one of a number of productions the students work on during the year. Each event they record gives them more experience behind the camera and working the equipment.
Under the supervision of NNPS-TV employees Ray Price, Bryan Catlin, Marcus Hickman and Bill Barlow, the students covered the ceremonies from the Ferguson Center, the Hampton University Convocation Center, and inside "The Truck" -- the TV station's "command control center on wheels."
The graduation ceremony video will be edited and combined with other material produced by NNPS-TV about the school and the valedictorians to create keepsake DVD's for students and parents.
