The good news? The students got to compete against their peers in categories such as Video Production, Prepared Speech and Occupational Scrapbook.
The great news? The Telecom Quiz Bowl team will be moving on to the national competition. They took first place in the state competition and will head to Kansas City, Mo. the week of June 19. There, more than 5,600 career and technical education students—all state contest winners—will compete hands-on in 96 different trade, technical and leadership fields.
The Quiz Bowl team is made up of Menchville and Denbigh High students: Carter-Gage Malpass, Stephen Tison, Reshawnda Carter, Hannah Marshall and Kolby Monson.
In the Video Production category, Mario Lawrence and Tenisha Williams, both of Warwick High School, placed ninth, and Michael Corder of Woodside and Angela Brown of Warwick, placed 10th.
A'Jee Delaigle of Warwick High placed fourth in Prepared Speech, which is a speech about SkillsUSA and how it has helped the student achieve.
Sean Mentis of Denbigh High placed fourth in Spelling. Contestants in this category must correctly spell words from the SkillsUSA leadership handbook.
Portlyn Jenkins of Menchville received seventh place for her Occupational Scrapbook, which is an informative and decorative scrapbook about the video production profession.
And this year, Annjela Nelson of Warwick High, who won the Program Cover Design competition last year, was selected to design the state conference program cover. Her artwork appeared on the programs distributed at the conference.
