NNPS-TV Production Team

The NNPS-TV Production Team has had a busy 2011 “shooting season,” and has reaped a bounty of awards for its efforts. The team won a variety of international and national awards for video productions and graphics, as well as green initiatives and community service.

Station Manager/Host Jim Anklam, Producer Nicholas Long and Video Production Tech Aaron Moore comprise the production team.  Together, they produce a regular news show highlighting the people and events in NNPS.  They also produce individual programs on specific topics to support students, teachers, and staff in the school system.  The team won an impressive 13 international awards, three national awards, and a local award for community service.

The Communicator Awards is a leading international creative awards program honoring creative excellence for communication professionals.  The team won two Awards of Distinction and one Award of Excellence.  There were 6,000 entries this year and 10 percent of these entries won Awards of Excellence. The highest honors went to an episode of Teach Green featuring a boat trip with Washington Middle students studying how to save the Chesapeake Bay.

The team also won seven Videographer Awards, which honor creative work in the video industry throughout the United States and several other countries.  Awards of Excellence went to the team’s news show “This Just In” and an episode of “News in a Minute.”

The Telly Awards is a premiere, international awards program honoring the finest films, videos, commercials and TV programs.  NNPS-TV won three Telly awards for episodes of “Teach Green” and “News in a Minute.”  The programs highlighted green initiatives at NNPS-TV and reading at Riverside Elementary School.

NNPS-TV also received national recognition for graphics.  The Pixie Awards honors outstanding work in animation, effects, and motion graphics.  The team won a Gold Award for the graphics in the news show "This Just In" and a Platinum award for the opening motion graphics for a series called "Inquiry Process."

The production team also won the national Communitas Award for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility for its "green" initiative "Teach Green."  Communitas Awards recognize exceptional individuals, businesses and organizations who give of themselves to better their communities.

NNPS-TV was also recognized at the local level for community service.  Cub Scout Pack 306 presented the team with a plaque for giving tours and demonstrations to the young Scouts and their families throughout the years. Anklam is a Boy Scout leader, and he acknowledged that the team helps Scouts of all ages – from Tiger Cubs to Eagle Scouts – learn about communication and video production.

In addition to the awards – and perhaps more meaningful to the team – NNPS-TV has received positive viewer feedback about the programs.  When a teacher, student, administrator, business partner, or parent responds enthusiastically about a video and asks to show it on their own websites, or in their schools or businesses, the team knows it is accomplishing its goals and communicating those of the school division.
